Flickr – worth some money?

Friday, September 7. 2007

At the moment I feel blackmailed by Flickr. It let me upload a lot of pictures – but over half of them are being held prison by the system. I had to learn, that additionally to the upload limit (which kindly has been raised from 20 to 100mb a month) and the fact that images of free users can only be accessed in low resolution, there is a limit on the number of pictures that are been shown by the system. This limit is 200 pictures. That’s a lot if you only post pictures occasionally, but not if you want to make a huge number accessible. This is what I tried after vlogeurope, because the audience for whom I had taken the pictures would have had easier access to the images – until the limit hit.

So Flickr is a free service – how can I complain about the limitations of something that is free? Well, the only thing I need Flickr is to enable me to interact in a certain social network. I’ve got my own stand-alone gallery up and running, so far holding 22985 items, it suits me very well, I’ve got all degrees of freedom I could ever dream of using an image gallery– but it is not connected to a social network. Flickr is a social network, into which I’ve already been sucked into slowly step by step.

So, will I pay the ransom? I’ll decide later..

Freak City does it once more!

Champion BambergThe Dragon has been tamed. Yesterday the Team of the Brose Baskets Bamberg won the fourth play off final against the Artland Dragons, ending the best of five series 3:1 for Bamberg! Two years ago, when Bamberg won the championship the first time, i was far away in Malaysia and couldn't take place in the celebrations. This year I was there in the front row. I took pictures of the public viewing at the Haas Säle, from the fans celebrating in the city, at the Maxplatz when the Team arrived back from Quakenbrück and later of the team partying at the Il Centro.

Article about self-projection amongst students in Bamberg in BENF

Monday, February 26. 2007

I took the time today to write a small article about students and their self-projections through pictures on the student-community StudiVZ. Unluckily the language on BENF is German.. To not discriminate my English reader I've at least a small summary here.

Somehow it seems to be en vogue to use "cool" pictures on user profiles or in picture galleries on the student community StudiVZ. In my opinion some of those pictures are really misplaced there. So I'm commenting on the six worst examples hoping, that I might shake someone awake.

New toy – Canon Digital Ixus 850 IS

Wednesday, February 21. 2007

During the last years I shot quite a number of pictures. First I could use cameras from Feki.de, two years ago, I got myself a DSLR camera to be able to get decent pictures while being abroad. I don’t regret spending so much money for a camera – it is fast and the picture quality is superb. There is only one little disadvantage with this camera- it’s the size: You can’t just put it in your back pocket.

But once you are used in operating a quite advanced camera you don’t want to give up the comforts. So I hesitated quite long before I bought a small digital camera. But then three weeks ago I borrowed the Ixus 800 Feki.de had acquired. I immediately fell in love with this camera. It is fast and very handy. Sorting through the pictures at home I realized, that the picture quality was quit good. So I came into thinking… I didn’t have the chance to shoot photos at many occasions, because I was too lazy to carry the big DSLR cam. With a small cam I would never have that problem again. So my desire for a small cam grew.

Checking through cam prices, I realized, that the Ixus 800 IS, would cost around 300 EUR and the new Ixus 850 IS model (which is capable of a higher resolution) was available for around 360€. Luckily I noticed, that Amazon is selling stuff, which they get send back from people who don’t like it, for a lower price through their Resterampe-Shop. There I found a new Ixus 850 IS for less than 300 EUR. I couldn’t resist that offer and ordered the cam.

So now I will definitely be able to shoot more pictures ? But I guess I will have to do some restructuring at my image gallery..

Running DinnerFor all readers not checking my image gallery regularly: I've got two new pictures series available to watch. The first was taken at last weeks running dinner in my flat, while Katrin and me prepared and served sushi (There are also some pictures of us at this Feki.de image gallery). The second one shows a few snapshots from the opening ceremony and fireworks of the rebuild bridge (Luitpoldbrücke).

Holiday! Celebrate!

Borgo delle MoreThe next highlight this year will be the holiday with my parents in Italy. Once more we will explore the beauties of Tuscany. Two years ago we have spent a really great week in September. Although it made me miss a lot of the actions related to our nude calendar. This year we will stay at the beautiful Borgo delle More from the 16.9.-23.9.. Preparing myself for this event I finally sorted through the pictures I took in 2004 and they are now available here.

Back from Salzburg / Munich

Friday, May 26. 2006

Salburg castleI returned late yesterday night, were I visited my friends Tom and To after visiting the Edumedia 2006 conference in Salzburg. Unluckily I didn’t make it to start digesting the conference and my impressions yesterday. First I had to overcome the shock that my favourite basketball team didn’t make it into the playoff finals this year, then I decided to consume the season final of Twenty-Four. Right now I have already sorted through two picture sets for my private gallery. The first set contains pictures taken directly from the conference, which I will us later for a short summary on thoughts I had about the different topics. The second (the best shots are already available on flickr) contains pictures of our little sightseeing tour we had after the conference.
