Sandkerwa – Day 1 – Big Sound Jack and the attacked photographer

Saturday, August 26. 2006

I’ll try to give a short summary and pick on or two things that happened on that evening for my Kerwa-Coverage. You can’t visit the Sandkerwa without seeing Big Sound Jack at the Katzenberg for at least one time. So we (paule, scotti and me) decided to meet up early and have a beer at the Katzenberg. At quarter to six we found ourselves a nice table beyond a parasol (unluckily not in order to protect ourselves from the sun, but from rain…). This had the big disadvantage that the acoustic wasn’t to good there, and it took quite a while to get into a little partying mood. The waiter there was very entertaining – he did have to serve beer to a lot of visitors from abroad, but lacking the necessary English skills it was not easy for him to explain, that there was a 5€ deposit on the beer mugs...

Later I was at the Haas-Säle to take some pictures for their web-page and had to realize that photography can be a tough business. While standing on stage next to the DJ I saw a couple dancing quite interesting, so I took the chance and took a picture of them. The guy realized this and immediately jumped towards the stage in order to attack me. Luckily the wall there shielded me and I could evade by making two steps backward.. The guy was calmed down by some of his friends and then disappeared, but it took my a while to recover from the shock.

Sandkerwa – Day 0 – The Wake-Up Party

Friday, August 25. 2006

Girls :)Since I will have at least one picture gallery to announce every day (I’m doing the photography stuff for haas-saele.de), I will try to give a short review after each of the festival days. As you know we started early this year having a Wake-Up Party at the Nelson Lounge. Since I was there on purpose for the blogger meeting, I started early into the evening –and at 8pm straight we were the first to be at the Nelson Lounge, unluckily DJ Funboy didn’t open before 20minutes past eight – but he honoured our time waiting in front of the venue offering a free welcome liquor for everyone. That was the start into a very entertaining evening. Just have a look at the pictures here. I got the chance to play a few tracks (although some of the guests didn't like them..), we were dancing and dancing and dancing. I also visited the warm up party at the Haas-Säle to take some pictures there, but since there were only a few people there I didn’t spend too much time over there, while most of my friends were partying at the Lounge (after our efforts to promote the party, I had expected a few more - but obviously five days of party are hard enough for many of them.)

Viral marketing - an approach to promote a student party

Wednesday, August 23. 2006

At our summer partycipate at the Sandstraße there was a really great after hour at the Nelson Lounge. After the event it was clear that it would be a great place for some small but intense parties! So my friend Thomas had the idea for a Feki.de party there. Unluckily the party team of Feki.de was not very convinced of celebrating at this venue. But although there was not much support to expect from Feki.de the idea for a party was born. A “Sandkerwa® Wake-Up-Party”.

The day before the Sandkerwa starts is traditionally a good day to party since the opening restriction at the festival area don’t yet apply (parties are only allowed until 1am during the festival) and everyone can’t expect to party. But how can we promote such a party without too much effort, and without the help of a small teaser on Feki.de to inform the students?
The plan to do this is quite easy – convince enough opinion leaders to join the party and make them tell there friends. This approach should be sufficient to fill a small party location like the Nelson Lounge. And as we all remember – it worked for the first participate–parties, too. The approach five years ago was different:

  • There were flyers (at least basic ones) to promote the event.
  • It took place during the semester, when a lot of students were in town.
  • There was a group of ten people personally inviting all the friends they met at the university (I very well remember To walking from table to table at the university cafeteria inviting people).
  • And last but not least there was advertisement running all over the small Feki.de platform (which of course had only a very limited number of users at this time

This time we

  • personally invited all (about 70) Feki.de members (pointing out the outstanding atmosphere at the last party at the Nelson Lounge)
  • Initiated a meeting of Bamberg's Bloggers at the Party
  • Made the party a #Feki.de Channel-party inviting all users of the Feki.de Chat.
  • Created a group for the party at the social software platform “StudiVZ.net” and invited all kind of people to join it
  • Initiated a thread at the Feki.de-message board promoting several events at the Sandkerwa – but of course placing the emphasis on the fact that Wake-Up party is the place to be on Wednesday
  • Promote the Party via message board signature “Mi, 23.8. Wake-up Party - die Sandkerwa(R) ist da in der NELSON LOUNGE”
  • Promoted via my blog
  • Added the date to the Feki.de Terminkalender
  • Had DJ Funboy promoting the party

So, let's hope that our efforts will be rewarded with success!

Sandkerwa. Let’s go for it! Wake-Up Party on Wednesday!

Friday, August 18. 2006

Next week the whole city of Bamberg will be upside down – it will be the time for Bamberg’s biggest funfair (aka Kerwa). Within the 5 days of the festival about 300.000 people will be partying at the heart of Bamberg. A definite must to visit. For everyone who can’t wait to party my friend 3-2-1-Meins and DJ Funboy (who is running the Nelson Lounge) are offering the chance to start partying on day earlier on Wednesday the 23rd!

So don’t miss “Wake-up Party - die Sandkerwa(R) ist da in der NELSON LOUNGE” I'll be glad to meet you at this venue.

First Bloggercup

Sunday, July 23. 2006

crazy golfI’m a little late with my posting since most of the other participants did already write about their experiences, but as you can’t hurry love you can’t hurry creativity sometimes, and it took a while for me to get a better picture of yesterdays events. Therefore I need to say it with the words of of a friend uttered here. “Der Bloggercup wird in die ewigen Blogger-Annalen eingehen“ („The Blogger cup will go down in history“):

We played, we relaxed, we had fun!

Girls relaxingEverything you can expect if some people sharing a common passion come together to have fun and to spend some good time. The crazy golf tournament was a good warm up for everybody to have a get together and for those who didn’t know each other before – to size each other up. The results didn’t matter that much – it was about the fun of the game (Hopefully I’ll get the video done someday…). Although we had some losses after the tournament (Jan had to work and coyote to study), we were still quite a group relaxing at the city park. At that time we although didn’t know how long we would stay there.. We were chatting, playing “Stadt, Land, Fluss” (I never want to play this game having a category “plants” again) and the time passed by almost unnoticed.

Annoying children smoking weedUnluckily there were some pupils around who got a little annoying after a while. Maddin did a great job in asking the Realschule pupils about there job perspectives, but I got just bored with so many people asking for cigarettes or searching for some lost girlfriends (“No, Sarah is not hidden beyond my blanket”). This was about the time when the odd things started to happen…

Scotti fighting our beer supplyWe ran out of beer supply and I went to fetch some more. But on my way back I almost ran into some girl with my bike and lost three bottles of beer which didn’t survive the fall from the carrier. Later paule and anima went to swim... and paule… well, better ask her personally… Probably this was a bad Omen for the rest of the evening.. But Scotti managed to get paule home safely. Actually it would have been a great idea to leave at that time, too – but somehow the fresh breeze at the park was to tempting to stay just a little longer. In the end we just stayed a little too long.. So Bee got her bike stolen, I got my neck tensed up, and I don’t want to talk about all of those nasty insect bites… But some day we might think back to this summer of 06 with Bryan Adams lyrics (Quoting this song reminds my, that Maddin promised to play some songs with his guitar next time):

Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - Id always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Althoug she had to leave early, Vroni didn't miss the fun part at the parkMeanwhile Alexxie, who didn’t make it to join us is already very amused about all of the events, which indeed occurred in realtime.. And the absolute outcome of the evening is available here. These results are far more interesting than the actual numbers of the crazy golf tournament, but for the stats Jan probably will supply us the numbers sometime.

To sum up things: It was an event definately worth repeating, but it is questionable whether the fun we had actually can be repeated!

E-le-va-tion

Saturday, June 24. 2006

Yeah! Call it like that! Yesterday was an great elevation for my ego. DJing for an internal Market Team Party it was up to me to entertain a crowd of about 70 people. Somehow I found the right tunes :-) The mood was exuberant till the end! What an evening!

AND believe it, or believe it not - the song of the evening was not Sportfreunde Stiller's "'54, '74, '90, 2006", but Texas Lightning's "No no never"! Amazing.

Running Dinner X – The Report

Monday, June 12. 2006

The running dinner is clearly one of the highlights of each semester. You won’t get a better chance to meet open minded students studying various subjects on one evening. Since the whole group changes for every dish, you can be lucky and meet up to twelve new people on this evening. We started at Jürgen’s place and I prepared the pineapple and strawberries for our dessert. From there it was only a five minutes drive by bike to reach our hors d’oeuvre location. We were welcomed by two nice girls who had a veggie soup prepared. A few minutes later an old study colleague and a friend of his arrived to complete our hors d’oeuvre group. Jonas had a lot to talk about his holiday in India, and the discussion was a little one sided.

To reach our main dish location we only had a few meters. A main dish at the student apartments Pestheim is always something special. Since the rooms are quite small and don’t have a real kitchen it is quite an experiment to cook something there for six people. However our host managed to cook some nice pepper in small ovens, and the bed was rearranged to serve as two seats. A few minutes later the dinner the proved to be a real premier: I’d never been to a running dinner, were there was a group which only consisted of boys. This wasn’t our only common thing. All of us were studying a business related subject for at least three years.. A less homogeneous group might have been more interesting. But since the dish was nice, the Bulgarian red wine delicious, and the Becherovka good stuff we got to enjoy ourselves nevertheless.

Dessert was Jürgen’s and my turn. The time it took for the final preparations was underestimated a little bit by me. So I spent quite some time at the kitchen.. I also managed to ruin the crème.. so it was only yogurt with fresh fruits and flaky pastry we had to offer for our guests – but wait. The B52s were part of the dessert ;-). Somehow our guests almost missed each other, one couple arrived one hour late and the other one had to leave early.. But we had one chance to have a toast together.

The party was a great meet an great afterwards, I met a lot of people and even was dancing. If you want to get some impressions, have a look at the pictures from Feki.de here.

Bergkerwa 2006 – Part 1

Monday, June 12. 2006

Crowded BergThis year I made it to the Bergkerwa in Erlangen two times. The first visit was organized by my Feki.de friends. To reach Erlangen we had split into two groups. The first did take a train around 2pm, which was far to early in my opinion. So I headed to Erlangen with a second group consisting of Rene, Markus and Katha taking the 5:30om train to Erlangen. And of course you can’t go to Erlangen on such a day without meeting other students and friends. Tim and our famous Iventscout-Party Team including Matze and DJ Hammer were on the same train.

PartyAlthough the weather wasn’t too nice the Berg-area was quite crowded when we arrived there. After a few minutes we managed to meet up with our first group and found as a nice place at one of the beer gardens. Good to have a place to sit – but no music and unpleasant service (the waiter “by mistake” stole one of our empty mugs.) Having our first beer there we then decided to meet up with Tim and the other guys.

CrowdArriving there at the other end of the Berg-area they were already enjoying themselves. It was really really crowded now, and standing near to a tree at some junction you had to take care not to be pushed away. But this was no reason to get our mood spoiled. Sometime later that evening Markus and me ended standing in front of one of the liquor stands... Luckily after 45 minutes our friends who had dropped us their managed it to return... We ended up partying at the Big Kitzmann tent. I won’t write about the events of the journey home on the train. But there is a nice video.. (which I can’t link here, but I encourage you to email Tim to see it ;-))
