Thanks to my dearest admin for helping me to keep this weblog up! I know I can be a little annoying asking for updates all the time, and therefore ask for forgiveness on this day of celebration.

Since I forgot to write my thanks last year, the least I can do know is to write "thank you, thank you, thank you my dear SysAdmin!" this year. I've also browsed through this list of potential gifts, and will do my very best to get you a cradle of your loved Strongbow ale. Also have a fresh copy of the virtual flowers I did already send to you in 2006! I also hope you you'll get many many more presents! The friendly reminder on golem.de might help other people to keep up with this event today.
Guess that cycle of celebrations started sometime back in 1975, when my parents got married, later siblings of my parents married, then the first children where born, and the whole clan met for their christening. Being Lutheran, some 14 years after the christening we could celebrate the confirmation. Meanwhile all descendants have been through this celebrations, and the next big round of celebrations are the 50th birthdays. With my godfather in January and my great-uncle Günther last weektwo of these get together parties took already place this year.
I did already provide some pictures through my image gallery, but I think a short write-up about those events will be nice for my personal memories. My godfather celebrated his birthday in “town hall” in Neustädtlein. This is more or less a restaurant which can be rented to run it on yourself for your party. This gave the whole event a really familiar touch. My cousins where serving the guests drinks (my cousin Tim works for the Maisel brewery in Bayreuth), the dinner was a buffet, and you could get dumplings! The later layer cake buffet contained home made layer cakes. Of course the party was accompanied by an obligatory solo entertainer. And it was natural, that he did not only play music, but also animated the people to enjoy themselves by taking part in some party games.. Well, this is the place where some sort of generation gap takes place. Where I actually had fun dancing foxtrot with my godmother, or listening to some traditional Franconian dancing music, it was a rather odd to watch a game where a rolling pin had to be passed from person to person. Overall I enjoyed that evening – continuation desired. (Of course I got an almost obligatory, cutting remark, why my younger brother could bring his girlfriend, where I had no one to show..)
Last weeks birthday hat a different setting, the venue was a restaurant in Schönfeld, there where more people invited, and less people I knew. The atmosphere was less easy going than on the previously described party. Somehow I felt a little uncomfy in that environment. Of course I had some nice discussions with my brother, and my uncle (who described all his late computer problems), but I wouldn’t reach a decent celebration mood. The solo entertainer had a great part in this situation. He managed to start and end each of his entertainment efforts with some in my opinion annoying phrases. Well, other party guests liked them.. be invited to check the video and make your own judgment.
Since I finished high school in 1998 my grade is celebrating a reunion almost every year. This time we met at the 26th of December (which now is the traditional date for this meeting) at the Odeon in Bayreuth. Finding my way to the Odeon I realized how long I hadn't visited Bayreuth. I had to look the location up on a map! The meeting was at 7pm and I was a little late due to a late family dinner, so a lot of old friends were already at the venue. I don't have time to get into the details of the evening but I had a good time, I got an invitation to Siberia, and I might look for job opportunities with SAP. I hadn't brought my camera in 2005 and somehow was sad, that I had no pictures of this event, so I took the chance to cover this years meeting.
Someone invented this day some seven years ago, to show them sysadmins their props once a year. Well… I think my sysadmin knows that I honour his work very much! He is available almost 24/7 and manages to solve most of my problems immediately. Since I found this nice virtual bunch of flowers I want to take the chance and dedicate them to Chrisi. If he’d only have the time to join me onto a Bierkeller I’d enjoy buying him a beer. Guess I'll rather cross my fingers for his exam and don't distract him from learning with special requests
Since pictures tell more than a thousand words, I won't bother you with too much words about yesterday's celebration of our soccer team making it to the next round of the worldcup. Just have a look at my pictures taken downtown Bamberg here!
Last weeks Friday was the opening of the soccer worldcup 2006. Since Germany is the host of this tournament and our team has the honour to do the opening game, it went without saying, that Feki.de organized an event to celebrate this. First element was an human soccer tournament. I was responsible to operate the sound equipment for this event and to do some DJing. Somehow the DJing went much easier than I thought. During the Human Soccer cup I had some sampler CD with the best soccer songs running in a loop and later the time were I could play some party music was greatly reduced. First it was reduced by the decision to broadcast the second soccer match with sound, and second by some neighbours who had complained to the police about too loud music. It was also quite easy to find some songs that suited for the masses. Requests to play Oliver Pocher’s “Schwarz und Weiß” and “54,74,90,2006” by the Sportfreunde Stiller hit me during the whole event. Although people found various reasons to complain afterwards, like the screen which was a little too much sunlight until 7pm, or some fans which thought they could watch the game while having a picnic (and complaining about other who stood up), I regard the whole event as a success.
