Freak City does it once more!

Champion BambergThe Dragon has been tamed. Yesterday the Team of the Brose Baskets Bamberg won the fourth play off final against the Artland Dragons, ending the best of five series 3:1 for Bamberg! Two years ago, when Bamberg won the championship the first time, i was far away in Malaysia and couldn't take place in the celebrations. This year I was there in the front row. I took pictures of the public viewing at the Haas Säle, from the fans celebrating in the city, at the Maxplatz when the Team arrived back from Quakenbrück and later of the team partying at the Il Centro.

Youth going wild?

Tuesday, April 3. 2007

Seems like i don't have too much luck with bicycles in Bamberg. Two of my bikes got already stolen - now, two weeks ago the bike I borrowed from Katrin was dumped into a excavation pit, while I was visiting the Stilbruch pub downtown Bamberg. Luckily only the front fender was bent. But I wonder why people do such things. Were they just bored? Or unlucky, that the bike was locked?

Article about self-projection amongst students in Bamberg in BENF

Monday, February 26. 2007

I took the time today to write a small article about students and their self-projections through pictures on the student-community StudiVZ. Unluckily the language on BENF is German.. To not discriminate my English reader I've at least a small summary here.

Somehow it seems to be en vogue to use "cool" pictures on user profiles or in picture galleries on the student community StudiVZ. In my opinion some of those pictures are really misplaced there. So I'm commenting on the six worst examples hoping, that I might shake someone awake.

Bamberg meme

Tuesday, November 14. 2006

A friend of mine created a meme about the town I’m living in for about 7 years now. It has been answered by a lot of blogger-friends, and here I go:

Why Bamberg?
Since I didn’t want to study business administration, but rather something related to computer science I ended up deciding that information systems would be a good choice. Bamberg seemed to be the perfect place and had no restricted admission for this course.

Did you ever regret your decision? Never!

Favorite bakery?
I really like the donuts (Krapfen) from the Fuchs-bakery – but I buy most of my bread at the Lidl supermarket..

Favorite doner kebab snack booth?
Pizza and more! (at the Lange Straße) – there is no better Döner in town!

Favorite brewery?
Mahr! A U!

Favorite store?
That Asia Shop at the Königstraße.

Favorite park?
Since I was living almost three years next to it I can only answer this question naming the beautiful Hain.

Favorite place?
http://www.photocase.com/photodetail.asp?i=32928 – guess where it is!

Favorite library?
TB5 has a beautiful view – TB4 is really Modern, TB1 has an overwhelming ambience. But I still prefer TB3 – thinking about the hours I was learning there it feels a bit like home.

Favorite building of the university?
Although there are a lot of great buildings downtown BA – “university” still means Feki for me. So I’m naming the main Feki building here.

Students of which course are your favorite?
I don’t think I can answer this question. I think I could find aspects for almost every course. Like - my Information system fellows for being geek like me.

Given free choice - where would you like to live in Bamberg?
I’d move back to the Obere Mühlbrücke or into the vicinity – Your downtown pretty fast, and you are at the Hain instantly!

Which aspect of Bamberg do you absolutely dislike?
Petty bourgeois attitude of some of the native people.

What do you like most about Bamberg?
The comfortable size - although I cursed the relative small size mor than once (seems like everybody knows everybody) there is everything you need to live and it is very comfortable to reach. If I'd have something to suggest to improve: Get us a place, where you can get food 24/7! (and a short political statement: down with the store closing laws!!)

Fässla Brewery - Bockbier tapping

Saturday, October 28. 2006

Header picture bock My current header picture belongs to one of the cultural events which is related in Bamberg’s tradition being a beer town. In autumn before the hard winter months begin the local breweries are brewing a special strong beer. When the Bock-beer is available the breweries are having a sort of kick off event when the new beer is tapped. These events are very popular amongst both and older people and especially amongst students. Although everybody knows that it will be overcrowded (sometimes you got to be there as early as 7pm to be admitted to the event) and that you’ll have to wait ages for your beer, it is an absolute must to visit at least one of those events every season.

BockbieranstichThis year the first Bockbieranstich I made it to visit was the one of the Fässla brewery. I went there with Thomas and Fabian and of course I met a lot of other students there, too! When we arrived at 6:30pm the queue to get a beer was humongous! Luckily we met friends who were already waiting there for a while, so we managed to get our first beer within minutes! Due to the mild wheather it was fun to stand at the brewery grounds and we had a good time!

Soccer: 1.FC Eintracht Bamberg vs. Vfl Frohnlach

Friday, September 1. 2006

Soccer Bamberg vs FrohnlachOn paule’s proposal we went to see a game of our local soccer team. The 1. FC Eintracht Bamberg is playing in a 4th tier league called “Bayernliga”. I got us some picture footage, and used it to “pimp” paule’s review which has been published on BENF. Also have a look at this review. The entry fee for students was 5€ and local beer is available for 1,80€ (0,5l), so the visit is quite affordable and there will be more interesting games - for sure.

Sandkerwa. Let’s go for it! Wake-Up Party on Wednesday!

Friday, August 18. 2006

Next week the whole city of Bamberg will be upside down – it will be the time for Bamberg’s biggest funfair (aka Kerwa). Within the 5 days of the festival about 300.000 people will be partying at the heart of Bamberg. A definite must to visit. For everyone who can’t wait to party my friend 3-2-1-Meins and DJ Funboy (who is running the Nelson Lounge) are offering the chance to start partying on day earlier on Wednesday the 23rd!

So don’t miss “Wake-up Party - die Sandkerwa(R) ist da in der NELSON LOUNGE” I'll be glad to meet you at this venue.
