Evaluation of gallery design

Friday, September 28. 2007

I'm currently evaluating new designs for my image gallery. There are a lot of designs available for Gallery2. I currently have my eyes on the design "PGLightbox". It features some nice mouse over effects and all in all puts more focus on images than on surrounding information (which my current design features). So far I've changed an undersection of my gallery to this theme. There are still some issues with this design, and it is working far from flawlessly but I would be very happy if you would have a look at it, and communicate your impressions!

Conference pictures online

Tuesday, September 25. 2007

dnn2007I managed to sort through all of those pictures I took at the "Das Neue Netz" conference. To achieve a higher level of networking I posted all of them on Flickr, but I prefer having them sorted a little more in my very own gallery. Unluckily it seems that I took an overwhelming mass of pictures. So far only a few more pictures with the conference tag "dnn2007" appeared on Flickr.

The countdown

Tuesday, September 25. 2007

The big finale is here. about three month ago I entered the new Astrowars round playing with old friends under a (for me) new tag. So far the round went on smooth.. But somehow we made it to enter the winning countdown of the game. As of today we are ranked first, and might even win the game - if we are really lucky... But due to that countdown we are now target of all of those other 5000 something players..

Well, I've managed to get the highest ranking within our alliance, so I fear I will be target #1 for anyone trying to kick us out of this countdown. Awaiting 24 sleepless hours.

Workshop "The New Net"

Thursday, September 20. 2007

Starting tomorrow with a get-together at the Klosterbräu brewery, I will attend a Workshop about further developments of the internet in Bamberg. Since the workshop is about new movements in the web, of course current web technologies are used to support it. You can have a look at the workshop weblog or even use the workshop wiki. Using the conference tag "dnn2007" pictures taken can be found at Flickr, articles related to the workshop can be discovered via technorati, and also related links via del.icio.us.

The program is very promising, and I’m looking forward to interesting discussions.

Jürgen Bauer - Problems under Flatmates

Tuesday, September 18. 2007

One of the most fascinating pieces of Fan-Art I’ve stumbled on during the last year. His name is Jürgen – Jürgen Bauer and he has to solve a lot of problems that arouse with his flatmates. Starting from sanitary problems up to not cleaned Kindermilchschnittepapierle. It’s a parody to 24 where Jack becomes Jürgen – the Swabian head of an apartment sharing community. Unluckily 20th century Fox keeps on deleting the clips from Youtube, but you should not miss the yet available four parts! Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4.

Globalisation is good – Johan Norberg’s approach to globalization

Friday, September 14. 2007

Today I stumbled up on a video documentary on globalization by the Swedish journalist and writer Johan Norberg, who takes up a position against the condemnation of globalisation. He shows examples how government protectionism influences the development of economy and wealth.

I titled this post an “approach”, because of course you can address the issue of globalization from many directions, and of course there are always scenarios where workers are exploited, and the only gainers are the multinational concerns, who are then protecting their economy etc… But I think like the Sunday Telegraph commented on that documentary:

“This is timely and thought-provoking stuff, and should be compulsory viewing for anyone who ever boycotted a brand."

Thx to the courtesy of Channel 4, the video is available on google-video. Watch it online, or download it for your Ipod!

Sandkerwa pictures – Part 1

Wednesday, September 12. 2007

This year’s Sandkerwa I’ve been working for Haas-Saele.de to get them images of their parties. It was just a matter of hard work. While everybody is partying like hell, get over 100 people willingly in front of your lens, take a picture that suits both you and them, and then at the great finale of the party sit in the office and get the pictures sorted and online immediately afterwards. I finally put together a little report about my duty.

ThursdayFor my part it didn’t start too well on Thursday. On Wednesday I had helped out DJing, and was disappointed, when almost no one showed up at the warm-up party. Then on Thursday the party didn’t start too busy, too… But having a lot of friends around helped though the evening, and to the end the crowd was partying well enough to get some nice shots.

Friday I had learned from Thursday, and checked in pretty late on Friday, after partying with friends at other venues. So I took my pictures in a little rush – not too much time to speak to my Feki.de friends, who also showed up there to take pictures. Playing around with the Night-Portrait option I got a few pretty interesting pictures.

Saturday Saturday for sure is the best visited day at the Sandkerwa. Therefore finally the heat was on at the Haas-Säle. It wasn’t too hard to get good pictures. Seems like the more drunk people get the more pleasant they are in dealing with photographers.

Sunday Sunday is one of the weaker days at the Haas-Säle, therefore a concert is hosted at this day. The Los Chicolores just drew enough people to allow a few pictures that give the impression of a good party, but in my opinion… well just not very well visited. I took the approach to take pictures like I do it on other concerts and left after the Los Chicolores were done to come back later. But later there were only a few people having cocktails at the terrace. So I ended up having only a small picture gallery for that day.

MondayOn Monday I was really happy, that I would be done afterwards. I resisted in taking too much picture of the fireworks, and afterwards had just another walk through the crowd while asking whether the people would like to have a picture taken for the homepage. Although I was already quite pissed after four days doing the same job over and over, this day’s gallery might be the best of the five mentioned above.
