Fässla Brewery - Bockbier tapping

Saturday, October 28. 2006

Header picture bock My current header picture belongs to one of the cultural events which is related in Bamberg’s tradition being a beer town. In autumn before the hard winter months begin the local breweries are brewing a special strong beer. When the Bock-beer is available the breweries are having a sort of kick off event when the new beer is tapped. These events are very popular amongst both and older people and especially amongst students. Although everybody knows that it will be overcrowded (sometimes you got to be there as early as 7pm to be admitted to the event) and that you’ll have to wait ages for your beer, it is an absolute must to visit at least one of those events every season.

BockbieranstichThis year the first Bockbieranstich I made it to visit was the one of the Fässla brewery. I went there with Thomas and Fabian and of course I met a lot of other students there, too! When we arrived at 6:30pm the queue to get a beer was humongous! Luckily we met friends who were already waiting there for a while, so we managed to get our first beer within minutes! Due to the mild wheather it was fun to stand at the brewery grounds and we had a good time!

A weird night!

Saturday, October 28. 2006

Do you know these evenings/nights, when everything just won’t work like intended? I had one of them yesterday:

“Yes I’m really tired, too – probably better catch some decent sleep tonight instead of seeing each other.” With this rather rational argumentation I was looking forward for a calm evening and a long night with plenty of recovery. Later I resisted my friends who were about to convince me that a visit to “Drönland” a party with quite hard music would be a good place to have a beer or two! I decided that it would be better to save the necessary money – only have 30€ left for this month. Ok, I got to admit that I watched a movie and it was about 1am when I finally got to bed – but that’s a god time for me anyway. So I went into my bed some time after 1am. It didn’t take me too long to fall asleep. But at 2am suddenly my mobile phone tore me out of my dreams. An unknown number calling in the middle of the night?!? Having a closer look at the number I already got an SMS explaining everything “Cat you are being attacked!” – It was my Astrowars Buddy Matti informing me of an incoming attack within this text based online real time strategy game. So I went to the computer and ran right into our little online crisis conference. Another player of our alliance was also attacked by this Lithuanian alliance which has decided us to be the main target of their aggression! He had is defence already in place. Now, we were starting to calculate how I could win that battle – I was being attacked by one of the ten biggest fleets in that game! And I didn’t have too much production points which are needed to build defences saved. So I first had to use the last chance (If you really need some in-game money you may donate to the game creator, and you will win some in-game money) – so I did that until I had enough money to raise a decent defence. The only problem was that I needed the help of another alliance member to get the defences in place. So another member got a wake-up call in the middle of the night… I then got up at 7am and at 8:45am to check that everything went right and to build up my defence.

It worked!!! I got this guys fleet destroyed :-) Thx to everyone involved! And let’s hope for some more quiet nights!

Wednesday Night – I feel the air is getting hot

Thursday, October 26. 2006

Yesterday I got so reminded to my youth! Only Whigfield’s tune “Saturday Night” was missing to reproduce the mood of my first dancing course.. I’m learning dancing once more! When Katrin asked me, whether I would take that course with her it didn’t take me long to decide – I really need an update for my rusty dancing knowledge – and who could resist the offer of sweet Katrin?

So for the next Wednesdays the basics of all kind of standard dances will become our best friends. Yesterday worked quite well for me – and we had a lot of fun. But who knows whether my lead will be sufficient if the figures get more complicated than just the basic steps… I’ll keep you updated!

Sports reloaded - training for the spine

Thursday, October 26. 2006

This semester I’m having professional help to spice up my sportive live! I’m taking a course translated “preventive training for the back”! Yesterday was the first lesson I could attend, and I got really delighted. There were no boring exercises but an always smiling coach and some other thirty (!) students (the majority of them female) and a lot of general fitness exercises. It started like a classical sports lesson in school – warming up by running through the gym and making fancy moves with your limbs. Later we had exercises for the general fitness and especially for the stomach and back muscles- first while standing, later sitting. I couldn’t believe how fast the 60 minutes passed. Now I wonder why I didn’t take such an course earlier in my student life – it felt so rejuvenating!

Let’s do it the Clooney way!

Friday, October 20. 2006

A few days ago I read an article about George Clooney and his problems regarding the tabloid press. Obviously he can’t go out on a single evening without being bothered by officious photographers. I’m not anywhere as interesting as George Clooney, but somehow the small size of Bamberg seems to inspire quite a rumour mill…

Clooney’s way out of this situation was just to date a different girl every day, so that the tabloid press should become bored of speculating again and again. Somehow I had quite a similar strategy for the time being: I’ll be visiting a dancing course this semester with Katrin, I was skiing with Berit, and I took Hanna out to the recent Ersti-Party. Although I didn’t cause this “confusion” on purpose some of my friends seem to be quite eager on speculating on my love life.. Let’s see whether I can add something today ;-)

Thx to Schuffi I found the attached video! For me it is a real pleasure to find a classic Eurodance-Song back at the current charts :-) For more translation of the Swedish lyrics and a better quality of the video, visit the official homepage here. For more information about the backround of this song have a look at the Wikipedie here.
